TWBAS 2009: Rainmakers at Queen's Hall
Tuesday, 17 March 2009 00:00

The sound of music permeates the atmosphere, generating excitement as never before. Jeffrey W. Fritz has written the initial article on the world’s best audio system (TWBAS), premiering at his Music Vault on Friday March 13.TWBAS is already creating much buzz and hype, since high-end audio is one of the most subjective and hotly debated issues on planet earth. The insatiable appetites of audiophiles will never be completely quenched; this aspect of human nature continues to propel the industry apace.

At a super colossal budget of US$375k, no one should find fault with Jeff’s preferred choice for the constituents of this system. However, there would always be other components that may sound just as impressive, shaping the pyramid’s apex into a plateau instead of a point. As far as I am concerned, there is absolutely nothing wrong with creating room at the top.

I am looking forward to being at the event and to writing my own impressions in one month’s time. Fortunately, anyone should be able to escape unscathed with an opinion that is written on All Fool’s Day. In the interim, please preview TWBAS at the following link and feel free to send your comments to Jeff: www.ultraaudio.com/twbas/twbas_20090301.htm

The Rainmakers cast is preparing to host its fund-raising concert at Queen’s Hall from 6.00 p.m. on Sunday March 22. The new Percussive Harmonic Instrument (P.H.I.) developed at UWI will also be featured with guest performers. It has become a long, winding road for The Rainmakers; the project has spanned eighteen months. Their catalogue of artefacts has grown to include t-shirts, polo shirts, prints, two CDs and a commemorative magazine. The entire list of merchandise may be viewed on line at http://sanch.com/rainmakers.html

Approximately one third of the total expenditure of TT$1.9 million, has been raised by selling branded items. The Rainmakers acknowledges the patronage of His Excellency Professor George Maxwell Richards, President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago. Major corporate investors are Trinidad and Tobago Entertainment Company, CLICO, The National Gas Company, The University of the West Indies, The National Lotteries Control Board and The Ministry of Community Development, Culture and Gender Affairs.

We continue to monitor the global economic situation and its impact on the fledgling economies of the Caribbean. It continues to amaze me that one simple five letter word has turned the world upside down since the beginning of time. History repeats itself and man will never learn. You may have already guessed that the word is greed.
