Charming Trinidad CD Launch - Press Release
Monday, 15 October 2012 15:01

Charming Trinidad is a Nation-building Song even before we became a Nation. It is composed by an ex Mayor of Port of Spain from a prominent family of Portuguese extract. It reminds one that Calypso Music transcends social, religious, racial and political lines while documenting our colourful and vibrant history. I am proud to be a part of this project; thank you Germaine, long Live Kaiso.” These are the encouraging sentiments of Andrew ‘Lord Superior’ Marcano who sang Charming Trinidad, just released on a CD by the same name launched at The Atrium in El Socorro on Saturday October 13, 2012.

The album was executively produced by Germaine Scott, granddaughter of George Cabral, the ex mayor. Matriarch and chair of a large group of companies, Germaine has partnered with Sanch Electronix to market and distribute her third fund-raising project of the series entitled Happy Times. All proceeds will go towards Charity and Educational initiatives and in this regard the UWI Alumni Association, Trinidad and Tobago Chapter (UWIAA) will play a major role in merchandising the CD, which will also be featured at its upcoming Wine and Cheese Festival to be held at the Trinidad Hilton in mid November.

From the Educational perspective, Sanch has recently initiated a pilot programme in four clusters of secondary schools throughout the country. Creativity, Innovation, Technology and Indigenous Rhythms will be harnessed into a special curriculum to foster a structured Music Industry emanating from the classroom. One of the critical success factors is fashioning studios/mastering suites based on the Sanch prototype in which Charming Trinidad was recorded.

Managing Director Simeon Sandiford says “Most people associate Sanch with exquisite steelband recordings and this is only the second multi-track production done at our facility. I would like customers to become aware of the mechanical and aesthetic quality that could evolve from small facilities utilising state-of-the-art equipment and technology for their productions. Additionally, international orders could be fulfilled from the newly established online shopping facility, The Sanch Marketplace.”

The repertoire is a gourmet selection of timeless melodies - vocals and instrumentals in Swing, Bolero and Honky Tonk modes with ol’ time calypso jam sessions rippling with endless Nostalgia. Tico Tico, C’est si Bon, Bewitched Bothered & Bewildered, Danny Boy, and Blue Bayou fit cosily into Germaine’s sixteen-track, concert-length eclectic brew that also includes six tantalising medleys. Trini hits of yesteryear - The Mighty Terror’s The Monkey and Lord Kitchener’s Ol’ Lady blend harmoniously with one of the world’s great Calypso bards, Andrew ‘Lord Superior’ Marcano’s rendition of a Cabral original, Charming Trinidad.
