UWI FUND-RAISER - BIGGER AND BETTER
Cultural Rhythms is the theme of a Fund-raiser to be jointly hosted by The UWI Development and Endowment Fund and The Alumni Association (Trinidad & Tobago Chapter). The inaugural event will take place on Sunday 5th September, 2004 at the Office of the Principal, UWI Campus, St. Augustine from 11am to 3pm. This initiative, conceptualised by Sanch Electronix Limited, will be held under the Distinguished Patronage of His Excellency Professor George Maxwell Richards T.C., C.M.T., Ph.D., President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago. The project will showcase the cultural diversity of the Caribbean through exhibitions of Musical, Culinary and Artistic Talent.
The impressive musical cast will feature performances by Ron Reid, Orville Wright and David 'Happy' Williams of the world-renowned Pan-jazz album Reid, Wright and be Happy, Tej Ramlogan (East/West Indian Fusion), Lord Relator ('Traditional Calypso/Extempo' Music), and Neal & Massy Trinidad All Stars Steel Orchestra.
New York-based Consultant Chef and Food Stylist, Jacqueline Danclair has created a menu for the occasion, consistent with the diversity of our culture. Works of art by the University's own, Shastri Maharaj, Elsa Clarke and Camille King will be exhibited. These and other commemorative memorabilia will be on sale. There will also be the raffle of a return ticket to any North American destination, courtesy American Airlines.
Cultural Rhythms is a new marketing vehicle for UWI. Its objective is to raise funds that would provide Caribbean people with greater opportunities to access tertiary-level education through scholarships and bursaries; allow for plant upgrading, enhance the development of facilities and support the effort of the Alumni Association, which in turn augments the endeavours of the University.
Tickets for the first production, Cultural Rhythms I, are priced at TT$300 each and are available at the Student Advisory Services, UWI, Tel: 662-2002 ext. 2326; The executive of the UWI Alumni Association (Trinidad & Tobago Chapter); Sanch Electronix Limited, #23 King Street St Joseph, Tel: 663-1384 as well as the following branches of Republic Bank Limited: Westmall, Independence Square, High Street, Arima, Trincity Mall and Centre City Mall.
